Description

Much has changed in the digital space since the enactment of the Singapore’s Cybersecurity Act (Act) in August 2018. Singapore’s digital economy growth and proliferation of digital systems have also brought with them new cyber related threats and challenges to both consumers and corporates.

To keep up with the changes, the Cybersecurity Agency of Singapore (CSA) has proposed new amendments to the Act. The draft amendments were released on 15 December for public consultation closing on 15 January 2024.

Our highly experienced speakers will share on the practical issues and challenges that arise from the amendments and how you can preparing for the upcoming changes.

Programme Outline

  • The new entities that the proposed amendments will cover, including a new class of “Non-Provider-Owned Critical Information Infrastructure (NPO-CII), Major Foundational Digital Infrastructure Service Providers, (FDI); Entities of Special Cybersecurity Interest (ESCI); and Systems of Temporary Cybersecurity Concern (STCC)
  • The new powers of CSA to oversee these new categories
  • Regulation of computer systems outside the jurisdiction of Singapore

Managing Partner

KK’s practice areas include cybersecurity, data protection, technology, employment, and private client advisory. Before joining the Bar, he spent close to 25 years in separate roles with global MNCs, listed entities, and the Singapore Government.

KK is a graduate of the University of Texas (Austin), Monash University Law School (Australia), National University of Singapore (Law Faculty) and Wealth Management Institute (NTU). He is also an affiliate member of STEP. He holds multiple technical qualifications and professional memberships in information security and audit.

Whilst as Founding Chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Practice Committee of the Law Society of Singapore, he led the Committee in developing the Cybersecurity Practice Guide for lawyers as well as developing the Cybersecurity Guide for charities in Singapore for the Commissioner of Charities, Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY).

Dr Kang Meng Chow

As a practising information security professional for over 30 years spanning across different roles and responsibilities, from technical services to management advisory roles, Dr Kang has consolidated his practical experiences in his book, “Responsive Security – Be Ready to Be Secure".

Dr Kang has worked previously in various senior positions in information security with the Ministry of Defence, Standard Chartered Bank, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, and Amazon. He is a Smart Nation Fellow (Cybersecurity) of the Government Technology Agency and a Member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Cyber Security Advisory Panel.

Dr Kang enjoys sharing his expertise with his peers and is currently an Associate Professor (Adjunct) in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
